These answers and more await you when you
become part of the Atlantic Chapter's new messaging
network.
What is a list server? A list server is a special
Internet address which resends mail to all of the
members of the list. To become a member of the list
requires the member to have an Internet address and to
register with the host computer. Any message sent to the
special address will immediately be resent to everyone
on the list.
Why do you need this service? The APCO Magazine is a
great publication, but information is delayed months
during the publication process. The APCO WEB page is
timely, but requires a connection to the World Wide Web
and requires a deliberate action by the recipient. Both
of these are one-way communications devices. A list
server will deliver E-MAIL directly to your mailbox and
allows for everyone to originate messages or comment on
messages. You can choose to send messages to the
originator or the entire online membership. Specific
Chapter members will be asked to contribute their
special knowledge to the list server.
Commercial members are welcome to subscribe and use the
list server. However, the Chapters license agreement
prohibits the use of the list server for direct sales or
other commercial activities. Items of general interest
such as new sales reps, phone number or address changes,
and personal updates are just fine.
How do I join? Send an E-MAIL to the
Atlantic
Chapter with
your E-MAIL address, full name and state. Every request
will be verified as a member of the Chapter. From then
on sit back and watch the traffic, and even contribute
from time to time. Contact any of your Board of Officers
if you have a problem.
Please note that this list is limited to those APCO
members who reside or work in the Atlantic Chapter
states.
